The 2007 American Sports Brand
Fusion Arts Exchange (FAX)
The Center for
Sport Management Research and Education at Texas A&M
University hosted a sport management exchange and study
tour for 15 international undergraduate students from five
Department of State-designated countries (Indonesia, Nigeria,
Russia, Turkey, and Venezuela) and five American undergraduate
students from July 10th to August
17th, 2007. The theme of this program was the
American Sports Brand (ASB), and
an original model
was
utilized as a thematic guide for the academic and study tour
components of the program.
Participants in Study of the U.S. Institutes are among the
approximately 30,000 individuals who participate in exchanges
managed by the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and
Cultural Affairs (ECA) each year. Other ECA exchange programs
include the Fulbright Program and the International Visitor
Leadership Program. Through a range of academic and professional
exchanges, the Bureau seeks to increase mutual understanding
between the United States and other countries
The
FAX program's main goals were to create actionable
knowledge related to the management of sport for both the
international and U.S. students, and the fostering of a greater
understanding of the United Sates and the participating
countries. Further, results were realized in the subsequent
and on-going positive diffusion of various histories and values,
as well as cultural and sport industry best practices in the
countries of the participants. Total funding for year one of the
project from the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and
Cultural Affairs was $280,000.
