 Trott Lecture Series

The Division of Sport Management in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M University has received a $25,000 gift from Cheryl and John Trott for the development of the Trott Lecture Series set to begin in the spring of 2007. Center for Sport Management Research and Education will invite sport industry professionals to share their experiences to the students, faculty, staff, and the sport management program at Texas A&M University.

John Trott is a proud member of the Class of ’66. He received his bachelor’s degree in business in 1966 and his Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the College of Education in 1972. He is the Chair of the College of Education and Human Development’s Advisory Council and has been a member of the Council for more than 17 years. John is President of Hochheim Prairie Insurance Co. in Yoakum, Texas. Both Cheryl and John are active in the Yoakum community.

Cheryl and John Trott’s gift will help the Division produce a cutting edge and world class lecture series of leading sport industry practitioners. The series will invite a total of 6 to 7 sport management practitioners to participate in the series over a span of 3 years.

“This generous gift from Cheryl and John Trott will enable us to continue to enrich and expand the educational experiences of our students,” said Dr. Michael Sagas, division director and associate professor of Sport Management at Texas A&M. “I believe that the Trott Lectures will attract some of the biggest names in the sport industry to our campus to share their experiences and provide insights into the ever changing sport industry.”

The money from the gift will also be used to enhance and support the Sport Management Career Center, housed in G. Rollie White Coliseum. This center will have many functions, including providing access to job placement web sites for current sport management students, as well as providing an enhanced mechanism for current students to create and maintain connections with former Sport Management graduates through the Sport Management Alumni Network.

“The ability to offer our students an outreach and career center is also exciting in that it will provide a conduit for getting our students better connected to our alumni working in the field and better informed on job opportunities and internships,” Sagas said.
